“Esther, come! Tell me about your calling!” That year, when I visited FiCF PSG Primary School with the church’s short-term mission team, I started my Cambodia missionary journey after being enthusiastically asked by Debbie. Over the years, I have always admired Debbie’s open mindedness for the ministry development. She was willing to listen to my ideas and gave me enough space to try and practice them. Because of Debbie and the open mindset of the FiCF spirit, my desire to serve children in the community was developed, thus starting the FiCF Community Center.
Thank God! In the early days of my ministry, Debbie gave me a lot of care. She listened to my difficulties, gave me advice, and helped me through my most vulnerable moments. In addition, she also provided me with a lot of care in my daily life; knowing that I did not have a car, she took the initiative to drive me around when needed. When I was sick with COVID, she cooked me porridge and cared for me. The food and the soup were delicious, and I was filled with tender care.
I believe that when God sent Debbie to start up the ministry in Cambodia, there must have been abundant grace and good will. It’s hard to imagine how courageous a missionary like Debbie is to commit herself to coming to Cambodia despite suffering from cancer twice! If it were me, I might not be able to do so. Debbie herself is a living testimony of her life. Over the years, she tried her best to handle all matters in the mission field. Coupled with the hot weather and bumpy roads, life is not easy at all! Since the first day she came to Cambodia with Lily, FiCF now has five ministries, about a hundred fellow service co-workers, and served countless students and women. They put themselves forward, as the scripture says, “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24). Yes, they are so willing to serve as a sacrifice for the Lord, and now they are bearing much fruit.
Finally, I would like to thank Debbie for her faithful service, wish her good health, and may she continue to enjoy the abundance of grace given by the Lord. May God receive all the glory!
