Pleroma Missions in Cambodia (PMC) 
A holistic ministry of FiCF in combating human trafficking in Cambodia

The four inter-related and mutually enhancing projects of PMC:
(Project 1) Pleroma Home for Girls (PHG) – Project Leader: Kimsang
(Project 2) Pleroma School for Girls (PSG) – Principal: Debbie Choy
(Project 3) Pleroma Home for Women (PHW) – Project Director: Chandra Chap
(Project 4) Pleroma Community Center (PCC) – Project Director: Esther Mok  

Part I:

Ongoing Activities of the Four Projects and their Outcomes the first half-year 2018

Ongoing Activities and their
Outcomes:

PHG - Pleroma Home for Girls

PCC - Pleroma Community Center

Counseling

* Personal / Group counseling
* Life skills
Treatment plan
* Family counseling by phone or visit the site

 

* On site counseling
* Soft skill development
* Sewing project

Sexual abuse case and family issue:  
Vice principle has played the counseling role for one sexual abuse case and one “running away case”

Go and visit students and family for relationship building
Assist the parents to discipline the kids with the permission of the parents

Schooling

* In house catch-up program,
* Literacy (Khmer)
* English/Chinese
* Regular school outside if the girls are ready for schooling
*Sewing class

* In-house literacy classes

* Pleroma School for Girls is a full-scale local government school full scale for girls

Open additional Chinese lesson for outreach.

Curriculum

* Catching-up program in Khmer

* Khmer story reading

*Follow all government educational curriculum plus:
* English, Chinese, and Computer teachings

* Christian believes and values
* Moral teachings
* resilience curriculum from the University of Hong Kong

Spiritual Programs

* Sunday church service
* Devotion
* Sing: hymns and praise  
* Bible study
* Bible study for the staff from Pastor Heather

* Scripture reading

* Daily morning assemblies
* Moral and life –kill teachings
* Biblical education
* Christian family value
* Easter service

*Kingdom Treasures every Sunday afternoon
* Bible stories
* Moral teachings
* Evangelistic children program

Extra-Curriculum

Outing, swimming, and water park

 

* Music
* Painting and art
* Christian fellowship
* Khmer traditional dance
* 基督少年軍 on every Saturday

Cooperate with the volunteer from other churches for outreach to the neighborhood in the community

Parents’ Ministry

* Regular visiting and providing counseling and Social Work services for the girls’ parents in their provinces.
* telephone counseling with the parents

Phone counseling

* Workshops for parents on parenting and family values
* Parents handbooks are established for the parents
*Outing with the students together as family activities

* Parents workshops
* Visitations
* small scale:  egg or one package of rice  to the family who do not have enough income or food for the kids
* build up relationship
* bring the team to visit them for evangelism

Vocational Training

* Attend training vocational classes:
* E.g. Sewing, hair dressing and styling

* Coordinating with other NGO providers for vocational trainings  
* having sewing machine for some item for sale

 

 

Field Trips

Medical Care

* Physical examination
Mental health treatment were referred to the special local NGO

Connect with the local emergency clinic for the needs of emergency during the evening time

* Provides healthy snacks for all the students
* Physical and eyes and eye-sight examinations
* Dental checkups
* Fluoride varnish application

* Short Term Medical Teams offers medical consultation
* Health workshops

Outcome
(Case Numbers)

11 cases were closed
25 cases for follow up and phone counseling
15 active cases at PHG currently
2 cases transferred to PHW
1 case escaped.

5 woman now in PHW Will continue the intake, some of them are short stay, women of forced marriages from China

* 117students for the school year
* 1 students married
* 2 students stopped study due to family issue and need to go out for work for the family

* 100+ children and family reached
* 40+ kids of average attendance for weekly programs

Part II:  Challenges

  1. For the first 4 months of 2018, we have lost 5 staffs: 2 social workers, 1 teacher and 2 adm.
  2. The high cost of the villa for PHG and PHW in the city of Phnom Penh.
  3. It is so difficult to have committed local Khmer staff for different projects.
  4. Lack of arts, Chinese and music teachers for PSG.
  5. The continue increase of the living standard for Phnom Penh.

Part III:  Political Situation

  1. The government policies had been changed a lot, such as the taxation, the financial report to the government, and also the MOU with the government are more demanding and complicated.
  2. The monitor of the government gradually increased, such as financial situation, staff, taxation and employee national insurance……
  3. Increase of the adm. cost because of tons of reports to different departments of the government.

Part IV: New Projects:

  1. The new 2 houses for the development of Pleroma Community Center and primary school.
  2. Setting up new committee for the Secondary Pleroma School for Girls. (Still pending)
  3. Purchased the 3500 square meter land for Project 20/20, and the architectural planning for the Home for Women and Girls to be competed on 2020.
